For our initial pilot program in the 2023-2024 academic year, two schools with both primary and secondary sections were selected. The chosen schools were G.S. Nyagatare and G.S. Runaba, from the Eastern and Northern provinces of Rwanda respectively. Both selected districts are in close proximity to colleges with Student One Health Innovation Clubs (SOHIC)s. Approval was granted by District Mayors permitting us to initiate One Health for Kids clubs in their districts, and the deans of each college permitted us to recruit SOHIC students to volunteer for the program.
In the fall of 2025, additional primary and secondary schools were identified and invited to start One Health for Kids clubs. These schools were selected based on geographic diversity and willingness to participate. The newest schools to launch One Health Clubs are: E.S. Kigogo (Burera District), S.G. Butare Catholic (Huye District), G.S. EPA St. Michel, G.S. Masaka, and G.S. Remera Protestant (Kigali District) and G.S. Rwemasha (Nyagatare District). The two prior One Health for Kids clubs remain active at G.S. Nyagatare and G.S. Runaba.
